"In the Red" Episode Guide

White Collar In the Red
Season 2, Episode 6 Air Date: August 17, 2010

The arrest of a PTA-mom-turned-jewel-thief leads Neal and Peter to an international adoption lawyer named Luke Donovan. Donovan is conning parents out of hundreds of thousands of dollars by claiming the birth mothers want money or they’ll reclaim their children. Peter pays Donovan a visit, but the oily lawyer is too smart to incriminate himself. As he leaves, Peter spots a member of the Abramov crime family.

Neal and Peter look into Donovan’s past and find he is a veteran card shark. He has been blackmailing parents in order to raise money to pay off his $200 thousand debt to Kaz Abramov. Neal uses his alias Nick Halden to infiltrate a high end poker game and beat Donovan. Without the winnings of the poker game, Donovan is forced to scam his newest clients: Diana and Jones posing as a young married couple. The trap is set, but Abramov, eager to get his money, steps in. Peter convinces Abramov to help him take down Donovan. For more information, check out Quotes from "In the Red" or "In the Red Nitpicks.

Andrew Jackson on $20

"Because I have an Andrew Jackson telling me it wasn't."

Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States. He is also the president that is featured on the $20 bill, which is what is referred to in this case.

"Throw a mullet over her, and she's Carol Brady."

Carol Brady was the mother/step-mother on the show The Brady Bunch.

Carol Brady

"Carol Brady had an affair with Greg Brady."

On the show Greg Brady is played by Barry Williams. In Williams' autobiography Growing Up Brady he briefly mentions going "out on the town" with Florence Henderson, who played Carol Brady. When the book was promoted, the event was often described as a "date," despite the fact that Henderson was happily married at the time. Compound this with the fact that the title of the chapter is "Dating Your Mom" and the event becomes "an affair." Florence Henderson posted this response to questions about the event on her website "That whole thing with Barry got blown way out of proportion. I guess in a sense it was a date, because Barry thought it was. But of course, I had no idea that his intentions were to 'date' me. It has made for a good story though!"

"My last gambling spree a few years back brought the Sun City to its knees."

Sun City is a popular gambling mecca in South Africa.

"Cards are war disguised as sport."

This is a slight misquote (or I misheard how it was spoken) of the Charles Lamb quote "Cards are war, in disguise of a sport." Lamb is an 18th century English essayist.
